Books

One characteristic of all Quarterman families seems to be that they like books: reading them and writing them.

We have here a list of basic books about Quartermans.

We include material about the book we wrote: Quarterman Family of Liberty County, Georgia and Relatives.

Families

There are at least four major Quarterman families in America:
  • The Liberty County, Georgia Quartermans, who arrived there in 1752, to South Carolina in 1695, and probably before that from Oxfordshire.
  • The African-American Quartermans, who are centered on the southeast U.S. coast from Georgia to New York. They took their name from the first group above.
  • The Camden County, Georgia Quartermans, whose ancestors came from Oxfordshire in the middle of the nineteenth century.
  • The Pennsylvania and Indiana Quartermans, origin possibly Ireland.
There are many more Quarterman, Quatremaine, etc. families.

Places

The Quatremaines are presumed to be of Norman origin and to have arrived in England about a century after William the Conqueror. Their center in England is Oxfordshire.

In the United States, the main center of Quarterman history is Liberty County, Georgia, and more specifically Midway Church.
