Stacy, Midway History and Records
Non Sibi Sed Aliis
The title page carries this
Latin motto of Oglethorpe's Trustees of the
Colony of Georgia, which means
Not for ourselves, but for others
The History and Published Records of Midway Congregational Church,
Rev. James Stacy, ed. It was originally published in two pieces (the
History and the Records) in about 1895;
note the quaint reference to
Theodore Roosevelt as recently elected governor of New York (yes, he
was a relative, as was Rev. Stacy). Later, it was republished by some
of our relatives in a single volume which also included some Addenda by
Elise Walker Quarterman and artwork by Leanora Quarterman.
That edition has since twice been reprinted by
Reprint Press, and is currently available from them or from the Midway
Museum, and also in some bookstores.
Any good library anywhere near Georgia should have a copy.
