Re: Quarterman Dates - Tea Parties

Dear Mr. Quarterman,

I am sorry, but I gave you the wrong date for the Tea Party in Greenwich, New Jersey.  I went to Greenwich, New Jersey on the Internet yesterday and discovered that the Tea Party took place on December 22, 1774
This is information I found out on the Internet about the Tea Party in Annapolis, Maryland. On October 15, 1774 the ship Peggy Stewart arrived in Annapolis, Maryland.  It had sailed from London, England.  It was owned by Anthony Stewart of Annapolis.  It had seventeen packages of tea as part of its cargo.  The people of Annapolis met and decided that the tea should not be landed.  Mr. Stewart said he was sorry that the tea had been put aboard his ship.  The people decided to burn his ship and its cargo the following Wednesday.  Mr. Charles Carroll of Carrollton (The last signer of the Declaration of Independence to die.) told Mr. Stewart that to insure his safety and that of the town, he should burn his ship himself.  He ran his ship aground on Windmill Point near Annapolis and set it on fire.  This act was viewed by the people of Annapolis.  He went ashore in a skiff after setting the ship on fire and the people were satisfied with what he had done.

Sincerely,

Susan Sinclair Grady
