   1170:  Archbishop  Thomas  A  Becket  murdered,  by  King  Henry  II's
   supporters.

   1698:  Darien  Colony  reports, Alexander Hamilton leaves for Scotland
   with  dispatches,  journals  etc.  Major  Cunningham  also  leaves the
   Colony.

   1845: Texas becomes 28th state,

   1890: U.S. massacres Sioux, Wounded Knee Source: ToW

   1890: Wounded Knee, Federal troops massacre 300 captive Sioux in South
   Dakota.

   1921:  William  Lyon  Mackenzie  King,  succeeded  Arthur  Meighen  as
   Canadian PM.

   1983: US announced withdrawal from UNESCO,
