   1696: Dorchester S.C. first sermon, ``On Sabbath, January 26th, Mr.
   Lord preached his first sermon at the place selected for the church
   building, and held his first communion under the branches of a large
   oak which stood near by, which was standing in 1849, but since fallen
   and gone to decay. At the time of this communion two deacons were
   chosen, their names not given. It was a time of great rejoicing.'' --
