The statement that W.W. II began in 1941 is incorrect.  It began in Sept. 1939, although some historians would argue it began as far back as the Japanese take-over of Manchuria about 1931.  In 1941 the U.S. formally entered World War II with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  However, we had been in an undeclared war against German submarines in the North Atlantic long before that.
