Re: Sumner ancestors




Charles Sumner was descended from William Sumner.  So was Increase Sumner, a 
delegate to the Federal Constitutional Convention, and Union Maj. Gen. Edwin 
Sumner, one of the Union commanders at the battle of Fredericksburg in Nov. 
1862.

Sumner Tunnel in downtown Boston is named for this very prominent family.

Dane Bowen in Alexandria, Va., researching Bowen, Bacon, Carlton (Carleton), 
Luker, Sanders (Saunders), Chaudoin (Chaudoins), Maverick, Richey (Ritchie, 
Richie, Ritchey), Spence, Sumner, Way, and Wells families.
